How Venture Capitalists Evaluate Potential Venture Opportunities - This is a presentation given by Richard Fox of IDEA Fund Partners on October 6 2018, It includes the slide deck he used to raise $4,000,000 in capital. The company went on to be very successful. This presentation is a bit different than usual. The slides are essentially used as a case study. The real content was presented by Richard and he kept us rapt. The last few slides include a recap of principles presented.

FundaGeek.com - Looking for funding for your technical project? This may be for you. You set up the amount of funds you want, the timeframe to raise it, and the rewards for various funding levels and wait to see if it flies. It is an all or nothing funding system. The overhead cost is from 8 to 14% if successful (5% for standard marketing and 9% for premium marketing and 3 to 5% for credit card processing).
Kickstarter.com - Kickstarter is not just for artists. Check out their Hall of Fame page. Some of their biggest fundings were for inventions. You set up the amount of funds you want, the timeframe to raise it, and the rewards for various funding levels and wait to see if it flies. It is an all or nothing funding system. Prosper.com - Explain your project, set the interest rate you would like to pay and find out how many people beleive in you.
Crowd Source Funding
Challenge.gov - is a listing of challenge and prize competitions, all of which are run by more than 100 agencies across federal government. These problem-solving events include idea, creative, technical and scientific competitions in which U.S. federal agencies invite the public’s help to solve perplexing mission-centric problems.
Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership - The Florida MEP is part of a nationwide network of technical, manufacturing and business specialists linked together by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); the Florida MEP is a unique resource for manufacturing in Florida. Go to the Partners and Resources page.
National Institute of Standards and Technology - NIST funds industrial and academic research in a variety of ways. The Small Business Innovation Research Program funds Research and Development proposals from small businesses. They also offer other grants to encourage work in specific fields: precision measurement, fire research, and materials science.
USSOCOM TILO - United States Special Operations Command, Technology and Industry Liaison Office has made it easy to get your foot in the door and they are located in Tampa. Simply prepare a 3 to 5 page document outlining how your product will help in one of their Capability Areas of Interest, fill out their on-line form, attach the document and a picture, then wait about 30 days. They get around 700 applications a year. About 30% of the submittals are called back for a presentation and some of those are chosen. When chosen, a purchase order for further development is prepared which could include payment of up to about $100,000 and you keep the IP. The key here is you have to have something they are looking for.
Zyn Systems - Zyn is a small business innovation research gateway. They provide listings of many of the grant systems and their solicitation dates. Check out the SBIR information and then Solicitation Dates to see a listing of grant offerings and the dates they are due. It is possible to drill down and find the specifics.

Entrepreneur Society of Naples - This was recommended by one of our friends with the Inventors Society of South Florida. The Entrepreneur Society of Naples [ESON] is a community based B2B organization dedicated to the education, mentoring and development of entrepreneurs. Sometime in your entrepreneurial career you will have to make a presentation to raise funding whether it's your family, friends, bank, angels, venture capitalists or investors and 98% get turned down!. Present to them and learn how to get it right.
